    Do you approve of the proposed law for the alteration of the Constitution entitled 'Constitution Alteration (Powers to deal with Communists and Communism) 1951'​

    Total for Commonwealth

    Total votes: 4,754,589

    In support of the proposal: 2,317,927 votes, being 49.44% of the total votes

    Against the proposal: 2,370,009 votes, being 50.56% of the total votes

    Outcome: "Not Carried"

    "Against" (2,370,009) minus "In support" (2,317,927) = 52,085​
